Issues: 1007 to 1014, April 3rd to May 22nd 1971

Part One - Issue 1007, April 3rd 1971:
A GLORIOUS day in spring, and a family is picnicking at the mouth of a valley in a remote corner of the Cambrian Mountains in Wales.

In Wales, a family are having a picnic by a stream, but the mother feels nervous about the spot and says that they need to move on. They notice that the telephone wires have been smashed down, and the pole has been broken as if a giant claw had smashed it down. The little girl indicates something in the distance – a giant lizard. They flee for their lives. Later that day in London, Mother is telling that there is a prehistoric monster roaming a valley in Wales. He says that it could be hoax, but that cannot be confirmed as the telephone wires have been cut down and the bridge has been destroyed, cutting off the valley. Mother wants to keep things quiet, so asks Steed and Tara to investigate.

Part Two - Issue 1008, April 10th 1971:
FOLLOWING a report that a prehistoric monster has been sighted in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains, the police seal off the area, and John Steed and Tara King arrive to investigate.

Steed and Tara find evidence of a meeting - TV Comic #1008Steed and Tara arrive at the bridge. It looks as if a tank has rampaged through it. They cross the river and had for the village of Pandy Mynydd, hoping the villagers will be able to tell them what has been going on. However, when they reach the village they find it deserted. They enter the village hall and find evidence of a meeting which seems to have been abandoned in a hurry. On the wall is a photograph of the villagers, which Steed studies so that he will be able to recognise them in future. Tara calls Steed outside, where she has found the tracks of a giant animal. They lead down towards the end of the valley. As Steed and Tara follow them, they are being observed by a prehistoric man.

Part Three - Issue 1009, April 17th 1971:
JOHN Steed and Tara King are investigating a report that a prehistoric monster has been roaming in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains.  In the valley they find that the village of Pandy Mynydd is mysteriously deserted, and tracks, made by some mysterious strange and gigantic creature, leads from it away down the valley.  They follow the tracks - but they are not alone!

A pterodactyl carries Tara away - TV Comic #1009The prehistoric man has been joined by others and they continue their silent pursuit of Steed and Ms. King. As Steed bends down to pick up a flint-axe the prehistoric men make their move and hold the pair at spear-point. Steed recognises them as the villagers from the photo he saw earlier. One of the villagers beckons for them to follow him. However, as they obey a Pterodactyle (sic) swoops down and carries Tara into the air.

Part Four - Issue 1010, April 24th 1971:
STEED and Tara King are investigating a report that a prehistoric monster is roaming in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains.  In the valley, and to their astonishment, they find that the folk of Pandy Mynydd village have reverted to Stone Age people.  Just then they are attacked by a pterodactyl and Tara is carried off.

One of the men attempts to down the pterodactyl with a spear, but misses. They beckon for Steed to follow them and head for a mountain cave where the rest of the villagers are camped. Steed observes one of them trying to start a fire by knocking two rocks together. Steed leans over and lights the kindling with his lighter. The villagers think he is some kind of fire god, so Steed assembles them into a band and sets off to rescue Tara.

Part Five - Issue 1011, May 1st 1971:
FOLLOWING a report that a prehistoric monster has been seen roaming in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains.  John Steed and Tara King investigate.  In the valley they find that the villagers of Pandy Mynydd have reverted to Stone Age people.   Then Tara is carried off by a pterodactyle and Steed leads a band of Stone Age men to the rescue.

As they get further from the cave, the men grow more agitated. Steed wonders what it is, and one of them leans over and draws him a picture in the soil of a mammoth. Steed thinks he knows how to deal with it, and gets the men to construct a huge trap which consists of a carpet of branches covering a deep crevasse. Steed attempts to lure the mammoth out, and it charges at him. Just as they reach the trap it grabs him with its massive trunk.

Part Six - Issue 1012, May 8th 1971:
JOHN STEED and Tara King are investigating the appearance of prehistoric monsters in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains.  In the valley they find that the villagers of Pandy Mynydd have reverted to Stone Age people.  Tara is carried off by a pterodactyle, and when Steed leads a rescue attempt he is, himself, caught by a mammoth.

Steed flips around and lands on top of the mammoth. To his surprise it deflates like a punctured balloon. It turns out to be some kind of robot, made from plastic. Steed’s fall has also dislodged some rocks and opened up the entrance to a cave. Inside the cave there is modern strip-lighting. Steed moves cautiously through it until he comes across Tara sitting in a cage. He picks the lock and releases her. Elsewhere, a strange-looking little man is observing them on a closed-circuit television. He gets up, grabs a gun, and beckons for his sabre-toothed tiger, Claudius, to follow him.

Part Seven - Issue 1013, May 15th 1971:
JOHN STEED and Tara King are investigating an extraodinary mystery in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains where prehistoric monsters are roaming and local villagers have reverted to cave dwellers of the Stone Age.  Tara King has been captured and carried off to a cave.  Steed is attempting to rescue her when he is observed by a strange man and his even stranger pet.

Steed nobbles Professor Jones - TV Comic #1014Part Eight - Issue 1014, May 22nd 1971:
JOHN STEED and Tara King have been captured by a crazy scientist, Professor Merlin Jones, who has manufactured robot prehistoric monsters and invented a device that has caused villagers in a remote valley in the Welsh mountains to revert to cave dwellers of the Stone Age.

Professor Merlin Jones is about to shoot Steed and Tara. Steed asks if he could be allowed to raises his hat to a man of such genius. Flattered, the Professor agrees. As he does so, Steed crams his hat down over the Professor’s ears and Tara grabs the gun. Steed asks the Professor why he made the people of the valley return to the stone age, and he replies that it is because the people were not content with all the new-fangled gadgets of modern life, so he turned back the pages of history to allow them to start again. Steed tells him that they’ll just have to change back and turns a lever. It’s the wrong switch and it leads to the destruction of the cave and with it the machine. In the village, the people have been changed back, and they are all complaining about problems with machinery.
