Part Two - Issue 1001, February 20th 1971
In the early hours of the morning, Steed and Tara King are called to the
Ministry of Transport by Mother. When they arrive, he tells them how, by
sheer luck, a deliberate attempt to wreck an express train had failed, but...

Part Three - Issue 1002, February 27th 1971:
FEARING that an express train carrying gold bullion is to be attacked
when it makes its special run that night, Steed and Tara King follow up clues
which send them on a long run into the country. It is late afternoon when
they at last reach an old disused railway station.

Steed and Tara arrive at a deserted railway station. Unknown to them they are being observed from the cabin of a steam train by two men, Crump and Grudge. Crump puts a plan into action and floods the station platform with smoke from the engine. In the confusion Steed and Tara are grabbed and tied by Grudge and one other man. Crump introduces himself as Septimus Crump, the station master. Steed points out that the station has been closed for thirty years and doesnt need a station master. Crump says that is the exact point this was once the finest station of the whole railway and then they closed the line and didnt care about what happened to the workers. They have been planning their revenge ever since. It is confirmed that it was they who had tried to wreck the express train the previous night. Crump says that there is another express with gold bullion on it due up the line that night, and this time they will not fail.Part Four - Issue 1003, March 6th 1971:
STEED
and Tara King have discovered that a gang - led by an ex-station master - it
is plotting to wreck an express train carrying gold bullion that is scheduled
to run that night - but at an old disused railway station they have been by
the gang...

Steed tells Crump that he will not get away with it because every part of the railway network will be on red alert. Crump explains to Steed that he will steal a diesel shunting engine from the marshalling yards and send it, driverless, up the main line right into the path of the express. He has calculated where the collision will take place and intends that he and his men will be there to collect the gold. He and his men depart, leaving Steed and Tara tied up, and not intending to return. Steed decides to take measures and bucks his chair up into the air. He goes crashing down, and right through the floor of the signal box. A scream comes up through the hole.

Part Six - Issue 1005, March 20th 1971:
JOHN STEED
and Tara King have discovered that a driverless shunting engine has been sent
racing up a main line track, and is destined to crash into an oncoming express
train carrying gold bullion. A villainous gang waits to plunder the express
when it is wrecked - but Steed plans a desperate bid to stop the runaway engine...

Steed and Tara decide to try out the abandoned steam train. Steed starts it moving by twiddling with some thingamajigs. They head off down onto the main track. They are now ahead of the runaway train, so Steed plans to wait until they see it coming and then run ahead of it at a matching speed until the two engines touch. They will then use their brakes to stop both engines. Tara contacts Mother and asks him to direct the police to the area where Septimus Crump and his men will be waiting for the train. Steed and Tara continue waiting for the runaway train but they have both forgotten something it will be running without lights and they wont be able to see it until the last minute.
