Story Nine

Part One - Issue 928, September 27th 1969:
WHILE on a state visit to the British Government, President Umboko of the newly independent African state of Mosambia is driving through the peaceful English countryside...

Tara is approached by the Village Idiot - TV Comic #928While on a state visit to the British Government, President Umboko of the newly independent African state of Mosambia is driving through the peaceful English countryside when he is ambushed by a number of men wearing full tribal costume. He labels them traitors and is taken away, the only witness is a sleepy yokel. News of the disappearance reaches Steed and Tara and they drive down to investigate. As the check over the car they find signs of a struggle and the yokel comes over to tell them that the President has been captured by ‘natives – big fierce warriors’. He has found a spear in a hedgerow. Meanwhile, President Umboko has been taken to he Mosambian Embassy, where a heavily decorated military man tells him that the British Government will be blamed for the disappearance and that he will rule Mosambia in he President’s place.

Part Two - Issue 929, October 4th 1969:
WHILE on a state visit to the British Government, President Umboko, of the newly independent African state of Mosambia, is kidnapped and taken to his own embassy.  As Steed and Tara investigate, an old Tramp tells them how he saw the President attacked and carried off by native warriors.

Steed figures that there is only one place where such natives could have come from – the Mosambian Embassy. Tara is curious that the President could have been captured by his own people. Steed suspects General Nawabie of wanting to seize power. They reach the gates of the Embassy and find them wide open. Tara is worried that if they enter they will cause a diplomatic incident, but Steed insists that they must investigate further. General Nawabie is watching on closed-circuit TV, and the duo are doused in bright spotlights. He tells them that the President is unavoidably detained in the cellars of the house, but that they are just in time for dinner – the Mosambian lions are feeling quite peckish at the moment.

Part Three - Issue 930, October 11th 1969:
While on a visit to Britain, President Umboko, of the newly independent African state of Mosambia, is kidnapped by his own Chief Minister and is held prisoner in the Mosambian Embassy...Steed and Tara King discover this, but are themselves caught, and face a terrible fate in the Embassy Grounds.

Part Four - Issue 931, October 18th 1969:

WHILE on a state visit to Britain, President Umboko of the newly independent state of Mosambia, is kidnapped by General Nawabie, his Chief Minister, and held prisoner in the Mosambian Embassy. Steed and Tara attempt a rescue, but are caught and almost killed by lions in the embassy grounds. When at last they escape, they hurry back to London to report to Mother...

Part Five - Issue 932, October 25th 1969:

WHILE on a state visit to England, President Umboko of the newly independent state of Mosambia, is kidnapped by General Nawabie, his Chief Minister, and held prisoner in the Mosambian Embassy. When the General holds a fancy dress ball at the embassy, Steed and Tara King attempt a rescue operation disguised as ice-cream sellers.

Part Six - Issue 933, November 1st 1969:
WHILE on a state visit to England, President Umboko, of the newly independent state of Mosambia, is kidnapped by his own Chief Minister, General Nawabie, and held prisoner in the Mosambian Embassy.  Disguised as ice-cream vendors, Steed and Tara King attend a fancy dress ball at the embassy and attempt to rescue the President...

Steed, disguised as a Cavalier enters the cell where President Umboko is being held captive. He ushers him out of a window and into the ice cream van. As the Mosambian rebels in full tribal dress attack the van, they repel them with accurately thrown ice creams. The guests at the ball think it is part of the evening’s entertainment. The ice cream van crashes through the gates and begins a perilous short-cut across farmland. The General realises that he must leave England immediately.

Tara and Steed trip the light fantastic in TV Comic #934Part Seven - Issue 934, November 8th 1969
WHILE on a state visit to England, President Umboko, of the newly independent state of Mosambia, is kidnapped by his own Chief Minister, General Nawabie, and held prisoner in the Mosambian Embassy.  Disguised as ice-cream vendors, Steed and Tara King attend a fancy dress ball and rescue the President.

Mother is waiting for the ice cream van containing Steed, Ms. King and the President. Mother asks the President’s permission to arrest General Nawabie. Steed and Tara, still wearing their fancy dress costumes, leap onto a motorbike and start to head back to the Embassy. All the guests have now departed, and the General’s car is ready to take him to the airport. The police enter from a side door and order the General and his men to stop. Instead, they go to attack the officers. From above, Steed and Tara release a huge net full of balloons meant for the party. In the resulting confusion, the General and his men are arrested. Steed and Tara finish the ball themselves with a spot of dancing.
